Notebooks and Tablets Products and Solutions by ASSI

"Notebooks and Tablets" -- Notebooks and Tablets, are computer devices, commonly shortened to notebook or tablet, are a thin, flat mobile computer (commonly) with a touchscreen display, which in 2016 is usually color, processing circuitry, and a rechargeable battery in a single device. Notebooks and Tablets often come equipped with sensors, including digital cameras, a microphone, and an (Tablets Only) accelerometer. The touchscreen display uses the recognition of finger or stylus gestures to replace the mouse and trackpad used in laptops. Most Notebooks continue to have physical keyboards while Tablets usually feature on-screen, pop-up virtual keyboards for typing and inputting commands. Both Notebooks and Tablets may have physical buttons for basic features such as speaker volume and power, and ports for plugging in network communications, headphones and battery charging.

We provide and consult on Notebooks and Tablets because they, along with mobile devices, are the most common tools for business communications today.  Why are Notebooks and Tablets in the same categroty with us?  Because technology has moved forward at a rapid pace to bring the funcionality of both of those devices to great similarity.  Why is one better than the other?  Usually, it has to do with screen size, physical keyboard preference, processing power / memory or docking station capabilities.  For most basic remote users, a Tablet now provides all of the functionality they require.  While the bells and whistles that notebooks provide are extremely nice and useful, very few individuals actually require the power and features of a full Notebook today.

Are all Notebooks and Tablets created equally?  No, not even close.  Understanding the technology that each device offers and how to select the device that best fits the end users requirements is still needed.  There is an old rule when buying boats, planes, weekend homes and other luxuries that does apply to most selections for end users devices.  Don't worry about the 10% of work that the device may or may not accomplish, select the device for the 90% of the time that it works and provides the best features.  If email and simple order entry are the goal and longer battery life on a very small portable device that last all day makes life better 90% of the time... then that is probably the better choice and having a shared workstation in the office for that questionable 10% is probably another good choice.

What else is important? Support, National Support, International Support and having the right device that allows you to travel and have the lowest cost for the majority of travel that you do.  What is the cost of software on the device, is that software covered by your other license agreements, How is it backed up?  What do I lose if it fails?  We help our clients choose, understand, implement, use and support the appropriate Notebooks and Tablet Solutions for their environment.
